SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS

  • According to the short answer we collected, we find that people do have different emotions and feelings when they are using different languages. They will feel more relaxed and close to home when they are using their native languages.

    • The reason they offer is that they use their native languages more with their family or friends, and it is better for them to express their emotions with it.

  • And they feel more fake and formal when they are using later acquired languages.

    • Cultural differences: Some languages have cultural backgrounds that make people feel the endearment is fake or not genuine.

    • Environment: Use this language in the workplace or school.

  • Some of the results from qualitative data are different from quantitative data, that might be because we asked about various situations in qualitative data so that people might have more significant feelings under specific situations.
